Celeste

The essential idea of taking a traditional former working boat design from a given port and turning it into a pleasure boat (or racing class). This particular project was entirely the Idea of Jonny Nance and began in April 2006 when he called a meeting of a dozen or so boaty people in St.Ives and presented the idea. Out of that meeting it was decided that we should start by organising a traditional lugger gathering of similar existing boats to show the town what we had in mind. That event (Boats in the Bay, Sept 9th 2006) was well- supported and a great success. At prize-giving I was able to announce that Robert Goodden had already ordered the prototype 'Jumbo' and that building would be underway before Christmas. One year to the day Celeste was launched. Its seaworthiness and sailing qualities have since caused something of a sensation amongst a tiny lugger fraternity who know about these things and hence considerable excitement among those who don't.
We are now fired-up to find another sponsor or group to finance a second boat so that racing can commence next year.
